University of the Third Age – Bury is part of the University of the Third Age (U3A) movement which is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!

Members share their skills and life experiences: the learners teach and the teachers learn, and there is no distinction between them.

The U3A movement is supported by its national organisation, the Third Age Trust.
The basic principle of the U3A is to bring together people who are retired or semi-retired, with the intention of expanding their interests, enhancing their mental and physical welfare, and providing enjoyable social contact with others.

Bury is one of 964 U3A branches in the UK. Locally our membership totals just over 400, and nationally 361,000. Bury U3A was set up in 2009 and members are encouraged to come to our monthly meetings, held at The Elizabethan Suite in the Town Hall, Bury. They take place on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 1.45-3.45.
