Bacup Pride were formed in September 2011 by a group of like-minded volunteers with the aims of improving the appearance of the fabric of the town, discouraging Crime and Antisocial behaviour, fostering Community Spirit and to promote and celebrate the history and heritage of Bacup and Stacksteads and the wider OL13 area.

The group’s activities range from planting, weeding, low level maintenance and litter picking.

With a lot of hard work and a small amount of funding our group nurtures the Wall of History Garden , Yorkshire St, Bacup, and maintains the planters in the Town Centre including the area at the end of St James Square/ Market St, aptly named Pride Corner by our Resources Officer.

We plan regular sessions, (promoted via our Facebook page and by email) where we welcome new members and invite them to “get stuck in.” Perhaps gardening as part of the group or off litter picking, it all helps. Equipment can be provided; most people find litter picking rewarding, addictive even, with many members acting as ‘lone rangers’ in the area where they live often when their diary doesn’t fit with the group timetable.  The town is very grateful to those that do both.
